Forrest William "Bill" Mcelvain

Forrest William "Bill" McElvain, 91, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, July 20, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will begin at noon prior to the service at the funeral home. Bill is survived by his children, Rick (Sarah) McElvain of Minneapolis, Cathy Gardner of Fort Dodge; Vaughn (Rosanne) McElvain and Chip (Danielle) McElvain both of Des Moines, and grandchildren, Josh Gardner, Chelsey McElvain, Devin McElvain, Catrina Judge, Alex McElvain, Brandon Erickson, Sean McElvain, Collin McElvain, William "Will" McElvain, and Calvin McElvain; great-grandchildren, Evan Gardner and Killian McElvain. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Carrie (Ferren) McElvain; wife, Sybil in 2004; brothers, Marion, Marvelle, Donald, and Stan. Forrest William McElvain was born January 23, 1929 in Numa, IA. He was raised in Seymour, IA. He graduated from Seymour High School and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Alaska with the Ski Patrol as a lead trail breaker. Following his honorable discharge, he enrolled at Drake University where he studied and played football. Bill was united in marriage to Sybil Sloan on July 4, 1952 and the couple established their home in Ottumwa. They later moved to Des Moines and finally settled in Fort Dodge in 1962. He was employed with Allstate Insurance Company for over 30 years. Bill was an avid bicycler and loved archery and bow hunting. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
