Gerald Joseph Gaffey, age 72, passed away May 2, 2013 at Tompkins Health Center in Fort Dodge. Joe, son of John "Jack" Gaffey and Edith (LeMoine) Gaffey, was born on April 9th 1941 in LeMars Iowa. He graduated from LeMars High School in 1960. Joe married Joleen Butler October 5th 1963. They settled in Pocahontas Iowa where they had three sons Mike, Mark, and John. Joe was an Iowa State Patrolman (#387) for 31 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and also enjoyed supporting his boy's sporting endeavors. Joe moved to Fort Dodge in 2004 where he married Nancy Beer on April 17, 2004 at Sacred Heart Church. Joe is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Mike Gaffey of Marion and Dr. John (Julie) Gaffey of Urbandale; brother, Francis "Bud" Gaffey; sister, Margaret (Tom) Henrich both of Lemars; step children, Bret (Nancy) Beer of Lincoln, NE and Staci (Matt) Miller of Fort Dodge. Joe is loved by his grandchildren, Mark, Alex, Abe, Anna, Bryce, Drew, Tehya, and Drake. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joleen; son, Mark; parents, Jack and Edith; and brother, Robert "Bob" Gaffey. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. Merle Kollasch, will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Dodge with a Rosary at 7:00.
