James J Weideman

January 26, 1931 — April 3, 2017

James J. Weideman, 86, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017 in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery with a military flag presentation by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Jim is survived by his children, Jeffery (Aimee) Weideman of Roseville, MN; Susan (Bruce) Light of Gowrie; Sandy (Curt) Sloan of Center Point; Mitchell (Anne) Weideman of Center Point; Anne (Tony) Dailey of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Megan and Kevin Light; Nick and Hannah Sloan; Haley and Abbey Weideman; Stephanie and Allison Dailey; and sister, Vi Gill of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Hilda (Miller) Weideman; wife, Dora; son, Greg; and sister, Ione Chambers. James Julius Weideman was born January 26, 1931 in Manson. He was educated there and graduated from Manson High School in 1948. After graduation, Jim worked at the Drug Store in Manson for three years. Jim then attended business school AIB in Des Moines. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict receiving his honorable discharge in 1954. Jim was united in marriage to Dora Whitney on February 11, 1956 in Des Moines. The couple established their home in Des Moines until moving to Fort Dodge in 1959. He then became employed at Gus Glaser Meats in bookkeeping until 1972, and later Rodenborn Glove Factory for 17 years in accounting. Jim semi-retired in 1989 and drove school bus for five years for the Fort Dodge School System. Jim was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the American Legion. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
