Gene E. Maschino passed away in his home in Fort Dodge on Monday, July 16, 2018. Among those left to treasure his memory are his wife of 49 years, Sharon in Fort Dodge, children, Richard Christensen and MaryAnn of DePere, WI; Edward Maschino and Carolyn of Badger; Dawn Wesley of Fort Dodge; Deann Faiferlick and Justin of Fort Dodge; grandchildren Abby, Riley, and Bennett; Dustyn, Hannah, and Emma; Austin; Kelsey and Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, John; and twin sister, Joan. Visitation will be Saturday, July 21st from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with funeral services immediately following at 1:00PM at the church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Gene (Jean) Everett Maschino was born March 5, 1936 on a farm near Pomeroy to John Everett and Evelyn (Hinrichs) Maschino. He moved with his parents and twin sister, Joan, to Fort Dodge in 1938, where he made his home ever since. Gene received his education in the Fort Dodge school system. He entered the U.S. Army in 1960, serving in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1962. A mechanic by trade, Gene owned and operated Maschino's Garage for over 36 years. His customers often referred to him as "that honest mechanic." Gene had many hobbies and interests including bowling, drag racing, attending car shows, motorcycle riding, pheasant hunting, mushroom hunting, and watching Westerns, the Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Amigo's. His quick wit and storytelling will be missed by all.
