Robert "Ted" Theadore Bodensteiner

May 14, 1933 — March 6, 2016

Robert "Ted" Bodensteiner, 82, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Born May 14, 1933, in Decorah, IA, he lived briefly in Albert Lea, MN, before moving to Fort Dodge (1941). Ted graduated from Corpus Christi H.S. (1951) before receiving a degree from ISU. He served 2 years with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ponchatoula, and attended grad school at the U of Iowa. While an auditor with New York Life in New York City, he met and married the love of his life (Millie) in 1959. Together they moved to Fort Dodge where they have resided since 1960. Ted spent 5 years working with his father at FD By-Products, then sold insurance and investments. The greater part of his work career involved 16 years in publishing as manager, president, and majority stockholder of Center Line, Inc. Later jobs included cab driving (8 yrs), and courier (14 yrs.). Ted loved Iowa and Fort Dodge, served as lector/cantor for Corpus Christi, broadcaster with KVFD-TV, a writer of the Sertoma newsletter, was a Sertoma Western Iowa Gov., and cackled as the witch for their annual haunted house. Singing was a joy and lifelong passion. He would perform and act in productions throughout his life, including membership with F.D. Glee Club (10 yrs), many musical productions for Comedia Musica, F. D. Harmony Brigade Barbershop Chorus (40 yrs), and several barbershop quartets. Ted enjoyed golf and sailing, and spent 18 summers at Twin Lakes, where he co-founded Twin Lakes Sailing Association (TLSA). Ted's love for his family always came first. He prized ISU and St. Edmond athletics, and found great joy watching his children and grandchildren compete or perform, sharing their losses and victories as his own. He loved a good game, a good story, and was always singing a song. Survivors include his wife, Amalia "Millie"; daughter, Susan Bodensteiner Huss; sons, Ted Bodensteiner and his wife Jamie; David Bodensteiner (Denver, CO); grandchildren, Bryan Huss (Spencer, IA), Olivia Huss, Abby Bodensteiner Huss, Taylor and Jake Bodensteiner all of Fort Dodge; and brother, Thomas Bodensteiner (Lincoln, NE).
