Lohrville Alma R. Chan 80, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Mercy One Des Moines Medical Center. A Celebration of Life visitation will be 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 at the Lohrville EMS Community Room, Hwy 175 at Lohrville. Alma is survived by her sons, Paul (Claudia) Smith of Running Springs, CA, and James Smith of Winterset; grandchildren, Cory, Alicia, Isabella, Roxanne, Joey, and Kelsey; great-grandchild Owen; sisters, Doris Tjernagle of Lohrville, and Donna Holtorf of Lohrville; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Faye (Laurver) Harms; first husband Junior Smith; and grandson Kelly James Smith. Alma Rae Harms was born January 11, 1939 at Lake City, Iowa. She graduated from Lohrville High School, with the Class of 1956. On August 31, 1958 she was united in marriage to Junior Smith and two sons were born to this union. The couple lived in Carroll, where Alma worked as a secretary for Crouse Trucking, and later worked at GE. They later divorced. Alma then married Hank Chan and they lived in Alexandria, Minnesota where Alma read utility meters until her retirement. They later divorced. Alma met Don Moore who became a great friend and they shared their life together until his passing. Earlier this year she established her home in Winterset to be close to her family.
