Barbara Helen Cabrera

January 20, 1936 — May 1, 2014

Barbara H. Cabrera, 78, of Fort Dodge passed away May 1, 2014 at Fort Dodge Health and Rehab with her loving family by her side. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Augustana Lutheran Church in Manson with Rev. Janelle Siffring officiating. Barbara is survived by her husband, Francisco Cabrera; son, Steve (Kim) Cabrera of Barnum; three grandchildren, Jill (Andrew) Carlson of Manson; Steve Cabrera and Brad Cabrera both of Barnum; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Carlson whom Barb truly adored; her brother, Robert "Buck" Albert and sister-in-law, Deisy (Jack) Harrington and other family all of Keokuk. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Laura (Lakisch) Alberts; son, Antonio in 1994; and an infant daughter, Linda. Barbara Helen Alberts was born on January 20, 1936 in Keokuk. She was raised and educated there. She then attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, where she met the love of her life, Francisco Cabrera, in Spanish Club. The couple was united in marriage on December 27, 1959 and established their home in Fort Dodge. Barbara was an elementary teacher and worked as a tutor. They lived in Overland Park, KS from 1989 to 2011 when they returned to Fort Dodge. She was very involved with the Boy Scouts and Alpha Gamma Delta Charities. She loved to write, traveling, dining out, and going to the theater. Above all Barbra was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Although Barbara suffered an accident when she was young and was left partially paralyzed, it never held her back from adoring life and her husband was there at her side through it all. Barb will be especially missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
