Bernard J Mccarville

On May 17, 2016, Bernard Joseph McCarville died at home while surrounded by family. He was 87. He and his wife of 52 years, Loretta, raised 11 Children - Mike (Terry), Twin Lakes; Katie Lewis (David), Wentzville, MO; Pat (Lori) Fort Dodge; Jean Helmers (Al) Fort Dodge; Joan Blair (Gordon) Moorland; Mary Ann Bixler (Bob) Lenexa, KS; Teresa Youngworth (Tom) Overland Park, KS; Joseph Fort Dodge; Anne Barkley (Bill) Fort Dodge; Dennis (Michelle) Ames; Sheila Huebsch (Al) Fort Dodge. He has 28 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren He is also survived by brothers, Robert (Bud); Jack; Steve; Danny; sisters, Mary Catherine Condon and Francis Ann Filipi; brother-in-law, Ron (Ilene) Buttz and sister-in-law, Judy Slama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; his parents, Catherine & Francis McCarville; brother, Tom; his in-laws, Eugene & Pearl Buttz and brothers-in-law Eddie Condon and Bill Buttz. Bernard was born at home on April 12, 1929. He was named after the parish priest, Father Bernard Hunt. Father Hunt had once told Bernard that he should become a Catholic priest or fill up the first two church pews with children. Bernard always said he chose the easy way out. He graduated from Moorland High School and attended Tobin Business School and Iowa State College. He married Loretta Buttz on May 10, 1952. They raised their 11 children on an acreage near Moorland. Of his many successes in life his proudest was his children and grandchildren. Bernard was a hard, tireless worker. He retired from Silgan at the age of 75. He and Loretta taught by example and all of their children were instilled with their work ethic. Bernard was a man of strength and integrity. He was devoted to his Catholic religion and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. He loved playing cards with his family and cheering on the ISU Cyclones. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Moorland, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery, Moorland. A visitation will be Friday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:30 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral. In lieu of memorials please make a donation to hospice.
