Betty Lou Peterson

April 14, 1936 — March 5, 2017

Betty L. Peterson, 80, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Services will be 10:30 Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Dan Kahl, officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be on Friday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Betty Lou Gorden was born near Forest City, Iowa on April 14, 1936. She was the youngest of eight children to Sam and Pauline (Thompson) Gorden. She was baptized in infancy at the Lutheran Church in Forest City. She attended Sunday School and was confirmed at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1955 and moved to Fort Dodge where she worked as a secretary in the offices of George A. Hormel & Company and later Iowa Central Community College before retiring. She was united in marriage to Archie W. Peterson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside on September 16, 1956. He survived her as well as their daughter, Vicky L. Lorsch and her husband, Gene of Omaha, NE; son, Douglas W. Peterson and wife Melissa of Fort Dodge; three grandchildren, Michael Peterson, Hannah Krohn; Sekara Lorsch. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Geneva Rollins; Sylvia Hansen; Bernice Peterson, June Trausch; brothers, Sanford H. Gorden; Manly Biondahl and an infant sister, Winifred. Betty and Archie are members and regular attenders of Grace Lutheran Church. She served on Altar Guild as well as helped make quilts with the Willing Workers Group. She also helped serve funeral luncheons. Betty never outgrew her love of kittens and cats. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
