Burt Shipman

April 1, 1935 — March 13, 2021

Burdette "Burt" Shipman, 85, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, March 18, 2021 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Snook officiating. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife, Karen Shipman of Fort Dodge; children, Randy (Roxanne) Shipman of Fort Dodge, Mark (Holly) Shipman of Denton, TX, Cindy (Dave) Roberts of Harlingen, TX, and Kim (Joe) Kesterson of Denton, TX; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George "Oscar" and Marvyl (Hinton) Shipman; daughter, Brenda Shipman; 6 brothers and 6 sisters. Burdette Edwin Shipman was born April 1, 1935 in Fort Dodge. He attended area schools and joined the United States Navy as soon as he turned 17. He served until his Honorable Discharge in February of 1955. On January 20, 1956 he was united in marriage to Karen Williams in Fort Dodge. Burt worked for IA Beef for a period time and was a carpet installer. He retired from Friskies in 1998. He enjoyed playing the guitar and even had a band Burt and the Country Singers. The admission fee was only a buck! He loved being outside and camping. He could always be found in the garage building something. Gramps as he was known to the grandchildren will be dearly missed by everyone. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
