Candace Aber

October 22, 1948 — January 17, 2024

Candace Aber, 75, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at 6:45pm on Wednesday, January 17th.

Candace Louise Steinhoff was born in Waverly, IA on October 22, 1948. She graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1966 and then attended Iowa Central Community College.

Candace loved animals, especially Bowser, Sugar, Champ and Tillie (the dogs). And Crabby, Blake and Silly (the cats).

She considered her position at Wakonda Golf and Country Club in Des Moines a highlight of her career and met many celebrities there including Arnold Palmer.

She loved fine dining and sharing great wine with David and her siblings, and friends Karen and Bill. And sneaking ‘cheaper’ drinks with her good friend Irene Brown.

Fond memories include childhood Christmases in LaCrosse with grandma and grandpa Selleck. Cheerleading for the ICCC football team. Chilly nights indoors at ‘the farm’ with a big pot of homemade chicken noodle soup settled in for American Idol (especially Season 7). She also enjoyed marathon binge sessions of the show ’24’ with ‘Jack Bauer.’ A not-so-favorite memory was having her front teeth knocked out playing ‘crack the whip’ with the rowdy neighborhood kids on Fort Dodge’s South 6th Street.

She was masterful at decorating the home especially during the holidays. Favorite songs include Alan Jackson’s Remember When, Amazed by Lone Star, You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban, and her special song with her daughter Sarah ‘Lost Without You’ by Freya Ridings.

Candace is now with her father Thomas, her mother Joanne, her beloved first-born Matthew, Uncle Mickey, and her friend Irene Brown.

She is survived by husband, David. Siblings Carolyn Lane of Bothell, WA and Stephen of Riverton, NJ. Her children Sarah Brandrup of Fort Dodge, IA and Bart Brandrup (Jessica) of Mustang, OK. Grandchildren Nikolas, Ashton, Taylor, Rian, Megan, Emma, Gabriel, Kinsley, Flynn, Ryker, Gunnar, and Britta. And wonderful great grandchildren.

Special love to Lori Trull and all her good friends in Oregon. She was also proud of her famous cousin, Tom Selleck.

Arrangements by Laufersweiler Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with a celebration of her incredible life planned for later this year.
