Carol Schmidt

Carol Eloise Schmidt, 91, formally of Laurens, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Friendship Haven.

A Celebration of Carol's life will be held later this summer at Friendship Haven.

Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.

Carol Eloise Schmidt was born on August 31, 1933, in Rolfe, IA and was the daughter of George and Hannah (Bangert) Johnson. Carol graduated from Rolfe High School in 1951. After graduation she worked in Rockford, IL and San Diego, CA. In 1954 she was united in marriage to Donald Gene Schmidt in Jackson, MN. Together the couple had five children, Mick, Dawn, Steve, Sherri and Machelle. The couple lived in California while Don served in the US Navy, upon his discharge they returned to Laurens and established their home. After several years of caring for her family, she returned to work as a secretary for Purina Feed. She then worked for Laurens Marathon School District for 22 years as the elementary school secretary. After retirement, Carol and Don spent 17 years wintering in south Texas and spent their summers in Okoboji. Carol enjoyed time with her family, traveling with Don on the motorcycle, shopping and walking with friends. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the women's circle.

Carol is survived by her children Dawn (Park) Fulton of Fort Dodge, IA, Steve (Tammy) Schmidt of Delray Beach, FL, Sherri (Gary) Gonzales of Henderson, NV and Machelle (Kurt) Sunner of Fort Dodge, IA. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren Jason (Keri) Aschenbrenner of Laurens, IA, Jesse (Jessica) Schmidt of Clive, IA, Jacqulyn (Devin) Stewart of West Des Moines, IA, Autumn Johanson of Fort Dodge, IA, Shana Fulton of Fort Dodge, IA, Ryan (Mari) Schmidt of Lake Worth, FL, Jenny (Josh) Jenkins of Richmond, VA, Kari (John) Cassaretti of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Jessica (Mario) Fender of New Braunfel, TX, Krystal (Josh) Sunner of Oklahoma City, OK, Adam (Tylar) Sunner of Lakeland, GA, and Whitney (Paul) Sunner of Oklahoma City, OK, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, brother Paul Johnson of Des Moines, IA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don, son Mick, grandson Kelly Schmidt, parents George and Hannah (Bangert) Johnson and sisters Maxine Claussen, Geraldine Zeman, Loise Stanley and Jane Simonson.
