Rockwell City Caroline "Carrie" Owen 104, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at Westhaven Nursing Home in Boone, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Father Lawrence McCarty officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of casket will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Rockwell City. A Parish Rosary will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, followed by a visitation until 7:00 p.m. at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Carrie is survived by her children, Mary (Robert) Dalton of Parker, CO, David (Diane) Owen of Hayward, WI, Jeanette (Stan) Davis of Sour Lake, TX, Elizabeth (Richard) Lange of Boone, and Dennis (Jeannine) Owen of Mankato, MN; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Feld of Rockwell City; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton R. Owen; son Phillip, parents, Lawrence and Pearl (Miller) Taylor; sisters, Gladys Rafferty, Dorothy Hildreth, and Helen Hanson; and brothers, Charles and Joseph Taylor. Caroline Elizabeth Taylor Owen was born January 28, 1914 in Sherman Township, Calhoun Co., Iowa. Carrie was raised in Calhoun County, attended St. Marys Catholic School, and graduated from Pomeroy High School, with the Class of 1931. Carrie attended Briar Cliff College, University of Iowa, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Buena Vista University. She later furthered her education and received her Special Education degree form Drake University. On May 21, 1936 she was united in marriage to Clayton R. Owen in Rockwell City. Carrie taught school for 25 years including Twin Lakes #5, Willard School of Moline, St. Francis Catholic School, and at Lincoln School. She retired in 1976 from Lake City Schools where she taught Special Education. Clayton passed away in 1987. In 2014, Carrie made her home at Westhaven Community in Boone. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
