Charles J. Rees, 83, of Vincent, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at Faith Baptist Church, 1408 N. 22nd St., with Pastor Nick Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Newark Township Cemetery, near Vincent, with Military Honors provided by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife Janice of Vincent; sons, Steve Rees and his wife Laura of Fort Dodge; and Ken Rees of Minneapolis, MN; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-granddaughters; sisters, Lois (Max) Barry of Brooklyn Park, MN; Virginia (Ralph) Ferguson of North Vernon, IN; Lorraine (Arnold) Schellhorn of Grant, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Ethel (Graves) Rees; sister, Norma Jean Bryant. Charles J. Rees was born February 19, 1933 in Dunlap. He was raised and educated in Dunlap, graduating from Dunlap High School in 1951. Charles served in the Navy from May of 1951 to May of 1955 during the Korean War. On June 29, 1957, he was united in marriage to Janice Nollen. The couple established their home in Denver, CO for 14 years then in Pueblo, CO for four years. During that time, he worked for Royal Typewriter Company. In 1975, the couple returned and made their home in Vincent. Charles worked for Northwest Office for 17 years then retired in 1997 from Idea Press. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was active in Boy Scouts since 1969. He served as a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Master for a number of years. Charles also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Chuck took great pride in his carving ability and his service to his country. Charles was grateful for being able to be a part of the Honor Flight. Chuck was a wonderful man, devoted husband, and loving dad and grandfather. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
