Charles Lombard

Charles (Charley) William Lombard, 89, of Fort Dodge, IA passed away March 14, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be held March 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with military rites provided by the VFW and United States Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Survivors include children Cynthia (Rick) Meek, Tamela (Brian) Pattison, Corey Lombard (Nikkie Summers) all of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren, Lucas (Andrea "Dre" Hanna) Meek, Goodlettsville, TN, Samuel Meek, Fort Dodge, IA, Daniel Trost (Madison Crosby), Denver, CO, Ozzymandius and Olivia Pattison , Fort Dodge, IA, Ace Lombard, Dalton & Jersey Summers, Fort Dodge, IA; sister Darlene (Walter) Halligan, Olewein, IA, brothers Elvert (Millie) Lombard, Hill, IA, and Franklin (Carol) Lombard, Lehigh, IA; many nieces and nephews and his caregivers Tammy Cook and Sharon Cervene. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Hazel (Stumpf) Lombard, wife Mildred "Millie" Lombard, son Scott Lombard, brothers Tom Lombard and James Lombard, sister-in-law Lavonne Lombard, and sister-in-law Millie Lombard. Charles was born in Rockwell City, IA on November 27,1931. In the spring his family moved to Fonda, IA where he started his education in a country school. At age eight the Lombard family moved to Somers, IA where he graduated from high school in 1950. In 1952 Charles enlisted in the Army. He served in Korea as a Medical Coreman with the 618th Medical Clearing Co. and in the 8th Army Medical headquarters. In March 1954 he was honorably discharged. Charles worked at Gus Glazers Meats for 15 years. During that time he built a house in his spare time. When the plant closed he went into business on his own building homes for 15 years. Charles worked as the maintenance supervisor at the Webster County Courthouse for 10 years until he retired in 1994. He then bought ground and developed his own subdivision and worked with family building their homes. He was united in marriage to Mildred Schuur June 9,1956, Charley and Millie enjoyed 64 years together. They built their last home together when Charley was 78. He also enjoyed working with his wife for many years collecting and dealing in antiques. They spent their winters in Weslaco, TX, where he volunteered helping build a clinic in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico and later as a tour guide. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
