Charlotte Mae Smith

Charlotte M. Smith 93, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. A funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday April 8, 2013 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. David Grindberg officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 Sunday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Sandra Anderson of Las Vegas, NV; daughter-in-law, Maryls Smith of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Cora (Beckley) Alleckson; husband, Harold in 2012; son, William G. Smith; daughter, Barbara McClure; infant grandson, William H. Smith; grandson, William A. Smith; granddaughter, Tammy Foster and her son-in-law, Nolan Anderson. Charlotte M. Alleckson was born January 16, 1920 in Minneota, MN. She was raised in educated in Minnesota, graduating from Arco High School in 1938. On September 21, 1938 she was united in marriage to Harold Smith in Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Minnesota and Chicago until returning to Fort Dodge in 1944. In 1946, the couple purchased and operated Whiteway Grocery Store. In 1958, they co-founded Smithway Motor Xpress with their son, William. Charlotte sold Minnesota Woolens for a number of years. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and St. Olaf's Quilters. She enjoyed bowling and assisting the Jr. Bowlers. For a number of years, Charlotte was an active member of the Lioness Club, serving as the secretary and tail twister. Memorials may be left to discretion of the family.
