Clayton D. Chalstrom, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Burial will be in the North Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26th at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home Survivors include his wife, Pat; children, Nancy and Jeff Harris and their daughters, Kate and Zoe of Marshalltown; Sarah and Art Johnson and their daughters, Emily, Audrey, and Annie of Fleming Island, FL; Carl and Polly Chalstrom and their son, Victor of Anamosa; Tom and Susan Chalstrom and their children, Aaron and Ellen of Fort Dodge; and Dr. John and Jill Chalstrom and their children, Calvin and Eleanor of Cherokee; and his brother, Don Chalstrom of Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice (Hutchinson) Chalstrom and daughter, Jane Chalstrom. Clayton Dwaine Chalstrom was born January 2, 1928 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1945. He was a WW II Veteran serving in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. Clayton then returned to Fort Dodge and worked for International Harvester. In 1951, Clayton joined the Fort Dodge Fire Department. On August 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Pat Cameron in Newton. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Clayton retired from the fire department in 1989 as an Assistant Fire Chief. Clayton was a 50 year member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge and longtime member of First United Methodist Church. He also was a life member of the AMVETS. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
