Connie M. O'Brien, 81, Rural Route Duncombe, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Duncombe. A visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Survivors include her husband, John; children, Steve (Flordelina) O'Brien of Clarion; Paula (Patrick) Habermann of Huxley; Thomas (Martha) O'Brien of Fort Dodge; Lisa Bernardt of St. Paul, MN; foster daughter and son, Sylvia Messerly of Fort Dodge; Roger Williams of San Francisco; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Slotten of Fort Dodge; Mary Heck of Webster City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ada (Courtright) Stell; brothers, Richard, George, Art, Johnny, Harold, LuVerne, Keith; sisters, Jean, Anna, Leona, Opal, Bernita, and Edna. Connie M. Stell was born on June 10, 1932 in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated in Clare and Duncombe. She graduated from Duncombe High School in 1950. On August 19, 1950 she was united in marriage to John O'Brien and the couple made their home on a farm near Duncombe. Connie was employed with Sears and later Furniture World in sales for over 25 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and bowling. Connie was an avid ISU fan but above all, Connie loved her grandchildren. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
