Dale was a life-long resident of Rockwell City having been born on the family farm west of Rockwell City. He was born July 14, 1925, to Fred and Josephine (Schwiderski) Stumpf. He graduated from Rockwell City High School with the Class of 1942. He farmed with his dad and attended Iowa State during the winter quarter and later was inducted into the United States Army at Ft. Snelling, MN. Later, he served as a Technical Sergeant, secretary to a General, in Georgia from 1946 1947. He loved his Harley 61 motorcycle and drove it to Georgia while serving in the Army during WWII. He married Joan (Carlson) Stumpf on January 23, 1954. Dale spent his life on the farm with Joan raising 8 children. As the family grew, he enjoyed sharing his love of the farm life with each generation. Dale and Joan moved to town in November 1993. Dale loved spending time on his family farm raising hogs, corn, soybeans and sometimes a few cattle. His membership in NFO and diligent care for the land showed his love of the land and wanting to pass it to future generations in better shape than when he got it. He was a very hard-working farmer and was a great role model for his children. Dale was a very active bowler, participating on several teams over the years, instilling a love of bowling in the family. Dale was also active at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and in the community. He was a long-time member of the Amvets, Rockwell City Lions Club, St. Francis Holy Name Society, and Knights of Columbus. Dale also donated blood on a regular basis well into his 70s. His Catholic faith was very important to him. This legacy of living your faith, having a strong work ethic, serving your community, and the importance of selflessly donating blood continues with his children and grandchildren.
