Dale F. Stumpf

Dale F. Stumpf, age 96 years, of Rockwell City, IA, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, at Journey Senior Home in Carroll, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2022, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of casket will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites by AmVets Post #41 of Rockwell City. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at St. Francis Catholic Church with a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. There will be an additional visitation 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Church until service time. Dale was a life-long resident of Rockwell City having been born on the family farm west of Rockwell City. He was born July 14, 1925, to Fred and Josephine (Schwiderski) Stumpf. He graduated from Rockwell City High School with the Class of 1942. He farmed with his dad and attended Iowa State during the winter quarter and later was inducted into the United States Army at Ft. Snelling, MN. Later, he served as a Technical Sergeant, secretary to a General, in Georgia from 1946 1947. He loved his Harley 61 motorcycle and drove it to Georgia while serving in the Army during WWII. He married Joan (Carlson) Stumpf on January 23, 1954. Dale spent his life on the farm with Joan raising 8 children. As the family grew, he enjoyed sharing his love of the farm life with each generation. Dale and Joan moved to town in November 1993. Dale loved spending time on his family farm raising hogs, corn, soybeans and sometimes a few cattle. His membership in NFO and diligent care for the land showed his love of the land and wanting to pass it to future generations in better shape than when he got it. He was a very hard-working farmer and was a great role model for his children. Dale was a very active bowler, participating on several teams over the years, instilling a love of bowling in the family. Dale was also active at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and in the community. He was a long-time member of the Amvets, Rockwell City Lions Club, St. Francis Holy Name Society, and Knights of Columbus. Dale also donated blood on a regular basis well into his 70s. His Catholic faith was very important to him. This legacy of living your faith, having a strong work ethic, serving your community, and the importance of selflessly donating blood continues with his children and grandchildren. Dale is survived by children: Paul (Rita) Stumpf, Rockwell City, IA; Nancy (Russell) Fulton, Omaha, NE; Jane (Wayne) Gundvaldson, Gretna, NE; Alan (Judy Brady) Stumpf, Walden, NY; Pamela (Tom) Pezanosky, Spring Hill, TN; Patrice (Paul) Toledo, Des Moines, IA; Karin (Shawn, deceased) Kelley, Lincoln, NE; and son-in-law (Mark) (Sara, deceased) Shoemaker, Council Bluffs, IA. Dale is also survived by 21 grandchildren: (Pauls): Nicolle (Joe) Zawacki, Stephanie (Beau) Klaffke, Allison (Colter) Kinney, Mariah (Andrew) Martin; (Nancys): Amanda Fulton, Mindy (Jon) Stohler; (Janes): Kellie (Colin) Hayworth, Brenda (Ryan) Larsen, Amy (Jake) Smith; (Alans): Ashley Stumpf, Katie (Devon) Schreiner, John Stumpf; (Pams): Thomas Pezanosky, Meredith Pezanosky; (Pats) Dillon Whalen, Carter Whalen; (Karins): Hunter Kelley, Logan Kelley, Jackson Kelley; and (Saras): Eric Shoemaker, Matthew Shoemaker. Dale also was blessed with 23 great-grandchildren: (Nicolles): JP and Bridgette; (Stephanies): Piper, Kendall, and Scarlett; (Allisons): Hayden, Harris, and Holden; (Mariahs): Josephine; (Mindys): Alexander and Ian; (Amandas): Everett and Evelyn; (Kellies): Owen and Brody; (Brendas): Ainsley and Jace; and (Katies): Amelia and Leo. (Matts): Kylie Brady and Taso Karabelas; (Jims): Jack and Connor Brady. Dale is survived by one sister, Doris Dickerson, and one sister-in-law, Alberta Carlson. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; infant son, Steven John; daughter Sara Shoemaker; and son-in-law Shawn Kelley; his parents, Frederick and Josephine Stumpf; brother Bernard (Irene); sisters, Florence (John) Newberry, Rosella (Marvin) Loxterkamp, Faye (Norman) Mundie, Aletha (Dean) Hayward; In-laws, Bob Bodwell, Norman Dickerson, Kenneth Carlson, Ray (Claire) Carlson, Dean (Lillian) Carlson, Sylvia (John) Reddie. The family also thanks those who were caregivers in his home, the staff at Journey Senior Services in Carroll, Iowa and the staff of St Croix Hospice of Humboldt and of Denison.
