Dale H. Sexton

Rockwell City Dale H. Sexton 96, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Sunny Knoll Care Centre, Rockwell City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at a later date. A Parish Rosary will be at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City with visitation and viewing from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Dale is survived by his wife Mary of 72 years; children, Marcia Frerichs, Keith (Barb) Sexton, Marlene (Bob) Buckley, Monica (Alan) Pietz, and Carol (Tim) Stevens; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Bob (Teresa) Sexton; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Alfred and Kate (Holder) Sexton; sister Doris; brothers, Franklin and Verle Sexton; son-in-law Doug Frerichs; and granddaughter Katherine Buckley Grove. Dale Holder Sexton was born November 24, 1922 on a farm near Jolley, Iowa, and later the family moved to a farm near Sherwood, where he grew up. He graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1940. Following his education Dale farmed with his father until his marriage to Mary Stumpf on January 4, 1947 at St. Francis Catholic Church. The couple farmed in the Rockwell City area until his retirement in 1985. Dale and Mary enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 20 years. Dale was always active in community activities serving as Boys 4-H Leader, County Committee and local Fair Board member. He was active in Farm Bureau, and Cal-Car, serving each as president of the board. Dale was on the original board that formed New Hope Village, Twin Lakes Township Trustee, Union State Bank Board member, and Lay Director at St. Francis Church. In 1985, he was chosen as a Master Farmer by Wallaces Farmer. Dales great loves were his faith, family, friends, and farming.
