Darlene R. Montgomery, 85, of Duncombe passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, after a lengthy illness. She spent her last days surrounded by her family and died peacefully with her husband by her side. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, with Prayer Service at 5:00 PM all at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Darlene Rae Summers was born on November 27, 1936, in Fort Dodge. She was raised in Evanston where she attended country schools and later graduated from Lehigh High School. On June 12, 1955, she was united in marriage to Jack Montgomery. In 1962, they established their home southwest of Duncombe along the Des Moines River. Darlene was a homemaker while her kids were younger. In 1980, she went to work at the Webster County Courthouse as a custodian until her retirement in 1998. She was a past member of the Otho United Methodist Church. Darlene enjoyed mushroom hunting, rock collecting, picking wildflowers, and snacking on gooseberries. She could see the "pretty" in anything. Darlene never met a stranger; they were just a friend she hadn't met yet. Darlene is survived by her husband Jack Montgomery, children Jeff (Laura) Montgomery of Duncombe, Jayne Jermeland of Duncombe, Mark (Heather) Montgomery of Duncombe, Mitch (Linda) Montgomery of Urbandale, grandchildren Jody (Trevor) Clark, Joe (Megan) Montgomery, Jackson Montgomery, Jon (Jen) Jermeland, Cindy Bacon, Lori (Dennis) Summers, Toni (Justin) Deal, Sarah Montgomery, Hannah Gronbach, Jada Montgomery, Dixon Montgomery, and Amanda (Jason) Alons, 19 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, siblings Diane Summers of Fort Dodge, and Deloris Griffee of Rhode Island, sisters-in-law Sue Summers of Coalville, Carol Summers of Cedar Rapids, and Carol Summers of Deland, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Margaret Summers, son-in-law Tony Jermeland, brothers Robert, Wilbur Jr., Jackie, and Jerry. A Celebration of Life will also be held on Wednesday, September 21st, 2022, the Duncombe Community Center, Duncombe from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
