Fort Dodge Darwin A. Rummel 89, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Deerfield Skilled Nursing in Urbandale. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home until service time. Burial of casket will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Darwin is survived by his daughter Kely (Kurtis) Lawler of Grimes; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene; daughter Cindy Wheeler; sons, Rick and Jerry Rummel; grandsons, Brad and Chad Rummel; his parents, Arza and Hazel (Kolb) Rummel; sister Lois Bangtson; and brother Duane Rummel. Darwin Arza Rummel was born June 3, 1932 at Rockwell City, Iowa. He graduated from Rockwell City High School, and Tech School in Omaha, Nebraska. On February 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Darlene Beddow at Rockwell City. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge where they owned and operated Northside Service Station for 35 years until their retirement. In 2017, they made their home at Woodland Creek Retirement Community in Clive. Darlene passed away in 2019. Darwin was a member of the First Congregational Church, Fort Dodge where he was active in the Mens Club. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling, but especially his children and grandchildren.
