While at Wesleyan he met the love of his life and on September 21, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Stibor in Shelton, NE. The couple made their home in Des Moines and for a short time Dave worked at Banker's Life in claims. Moving to Denver, CO, Dave took a job with Honeywell Photographic for about a year. Dave and Linda moved to southwest Iowa where they lived for several years, and Dave sold insurance. He also became an accomplished carpenter which he worked as for several years. From 1976 to 1978, Dave attended the University of Nebraska Medical School and graduated from the Physicians Assistant Program. Following his education the couple made their home in Rockwell City and eventually at Twin Lakes. For about a year Dave was the PA-C at Lake City Clinic, before ending up at the Clinic in Rockwell City from 1979 to 2011. During that time Dave was the Team Dr. for the Wildcat athletic teams. He also treated patients at the Rockwell City Prison for years.

Following his retirement, he worked part time 3 days a week at the Medical Center (now UnityPoint) in Pocahontas for 2 years. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, boating, listening to music, reading, and attending car shows. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dave also enjoyed playing golf, riding bikes, and volunteering his time at the Twin Lakes Bible Camp. Whenever RAGBRAI came through town Dave was there for any medical needs. He and Linda also rode RAGBRAI a few times. Dave served on the Sunny View Care Center Board, the Calhoun County Health Department Board, and is a former member of the Masons. He was a 30 plus year member of the Rotary Club of Rockwell City and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. Dave was also honored by the State of Iowa in 2001 with the Governor's Volunteer Award.
