David E. Nelson

Lohrville David E. Nelson 85, of Port Orange, Florida, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie, with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial of casket will be at Lost Grove Township Cemetery, near Harcourt. Visitation will be 12:00 noon Saturday at the Church until service time. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie is serving the family. David Eugene Nelson was born on May 25, 1936 in Fort Dodge. He grew up and was educated in Lohrville, Iowa. David graduated from Lohrville High School in 1955 and served in the United States Army before being medically discharged. His friends and colleagues colloquially referred to him as Davey or Nelson. He was interwoven into the fabric of the community and was loved by all. David worked as a farmer until he retired. He enjoyed his travels, especially visiting Sweden and California. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. When he could no longer drive, he moved into the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge along with his longtime girlfriend Joanne Wiese, who passed away last year. David moved to Port Orange, Florida recently to be near his only sibling, Wilma Russell. David was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer & Effie (Hade) Nelson and his lady friend Joanne Wiese. He leaves behind his sister Wilma and her children Marc, Jon and Kristine and their families.
