David J. Lawler Jr., 64, of Council Bluffs formerly of Clare and Fort Dodge passed away April 10, 2015 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Matthew's Church, Clare. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Clare. A visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. David is survived by his siblings, Ellen (Jack) Cottrell of Fort Dodge; Rev. Bruce Lawler of Larchwood; and Marcia (Pete) Cooper of Lee's Summit, MO., and five nieces and nephews: Carl Cottrell and Marianne Stepanian, Watertown MA; Carrie and Matt Becker, Las Vegas, NV; Will and Lea Petrie, Kansas City, MO; Teresa and Jason Satchell, Overland Park KS; Katherine Petrie, Lee's Summit, MO He was preceded in death by his parents, David J. Sr. and Irene (Meyers) Lawler. David Joseph Lawler Jr. was born September 15, 1950 in Fort Dodge. He attended St. Matthews School in Clare and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1968. David graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, attended the University of Iowa College of Law, received his law degree and was admitted to the Iowa Bar. After serving as a clerk for former Supreme Court Justice David Harris, David moved back to Fort Dodge and opened his own practice. David eventually moved to Council Bluffs and worked for the Legal Services of Iowa before returning to private practice. He was a ski instructor and worked as ski patrol at Mount Crescent. David collected model railroad trains and participated in Ragbrai for many years. Memorials may be left to the St. Edmond Catholic School System.
