David L. Schlesinger, 85, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. David Grindberg, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation is Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at the Corpus Christi Cemetery. David is survived by his wife, Dena; children, Ruth Schlesinger of Urbandale; Michael (Julie) Schlesinger of Marshalltown; Judy Van Alstine (Bruce) of Eagle Grove; Carol Pingel (Terry); Lynee Schlesinger; Douglas Benson (Barbara); Victoria Bacon all of Fort Dodge; David Benson (Mary) of Forney, TX; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth (Hanson) Schlesinger and brother, Clifford Schlesinger. David was born November 23, 1929 in Thor. At the age of 13, he moved with his family to Fort Dodge. He graduated from FDSH in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1948 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. On June 24, 1977, David was united in marriage to Dena Benson. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. David worked for the Kelco Company for 27 years and Jayden for 7 years. In 1984, David and Dena opened the Roman Inn, which they owned and operated until his retirement in 2009. David is a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Moose Lodge, and a past president of the former Dodger's Lion club. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
