Dawn Michele Gehlhausen

Dawn M. Gehlhausen, 51, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home after enduring a 4-year battle with ALS.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.

Dawn is survived by her children, Ravon, Brandon, and Lydia all of Fort Dodge; her parents Charles and Carolyn (Aschenbrenner) Sandvig of Fort Dodge; her brother Scott (Sofia) Sandvig of Fort Dodge; her grandmother Dorothy Sandvig of Laurens; many aunts, uncles, cousin and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a brother Brian Sandvig.

Dawn Michele Sandvig was born March 18, 1972, in Atlantic, IA. She began working as a CNA at Friendship Haven while attending high school. She graduated FDSH in 1990 and continued her education earning her registered nurse degree from ICCC. She then began her 30-year nursing career at Ellen’s Nursing Home later known as Greenleaf before becoming a nurse at Webster County Public Health in home care and hospice. On September 27, 2003, she was united in marriage to Jeff Gehlhausen at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Dawn had a sense of humor and a spunky wit that will never be forgotten. She was a fun-loving spirit who enjoyed travelling, especially anywhere with a beach. Above all she loved and cherished the time she spent with her children. Dawn’s life, though too short, was lived to the fullest. Her story is one of unwavering care for others, a celebration of life’s joys, and the courage to face adversity with grace.
