Dean M. Konvalinka, 69, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday, July 28, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, August 2, 2019 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery with military rites provided by the VFW Post 1856 and the United States Army Honor Guard. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday with a rosary at 4:00 pm and a Vigil at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Dean is survived by his wife Susie (Powell) Konvalinka of Fort Dodge, sons, Mike Konvalinka of Barnum, Kevin Konvalinka of Fort Dodge, and Jason Konvalinka of Sandstone, MN, and grandchildren, Jordan, Kailey, Brayden, Cole, and Cainan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Anna (Beadle) Konvalinka, brothers, Donald and Dennis Konvalinka, and in-laws, Margaret and Lerenzle Powell. Dean Michael Konvalinka was born November 29, 1949 in Fort Dodge. He was a 1968 graduate of Saint Edmond High School. He served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1973 in Frankfurt, Germany. On October 1, 1971 he was united in marriage to Susie Powell. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Dean worked as a welder for Bush Hog Ag. Equipment until its closure. He then painted Victorian homes until he retired in 2004. Dean was an avid bowler winning many trophies throughout his career. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in the great outdoors and had a passion for muscle cars. Dean had a passion for drag racing his 1965 Mustang Fastback and building Figure 8 Race cars with his sons. He was a longtime Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, and NASCAR fan. Above all, the most important thing in Dean's life was his family, especially his grandchildren. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
