Rockwell City Delmer W. Zinnel 88, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 at Shady Oaks Care Center, Lake City. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018 at St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating. Visitation and viewing will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. Memorials May be left to Epic Youth Program or to St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church. Delmer is survived by his wife Jean; daughter Jan (James) Wrolstad of Liberty, MO; son William (Mary) Zinnel of Boone; 5 grandchildren, Paul, Sarah, Valerie, Joshua, and Joel; sister Rachel Berg of Rockwell City; brother George (Harriet) Zinnel of Rockwell City; sister-in-law Darlene Zinnel of Pomeroy; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen (Sommerfeld) Zinnel; sister Mardella Schultz; brother Marvin Zinnel; and an infant brother. Delmer Wayne Zinnel was born August 25, 1930 in Lake City, Iowa. Delmer graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1948. In 1950, Delmer joined the National Guard. In November of 1951, he served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in May of 1953 attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class. On November 2, 1952 Delmer was united in marriage to Jean Eckhoff at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Rockwell City. The couple established their home on a farm near Jolley until moving into Rockwell City in 1990. Delmer farmed for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. For a number of years, Delmer had served on the Lytton School Board, Calhoun County School Board, Union State Bank Board, Iowa Beef Producers Council, and many Church Boards. He was an active member at St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, where he was a High School Sunday School Teacher. Delmer enjoyed golf, wintering in Arizona, and volunteering at the Childrens Home in Mesa. In 2015, he was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame. Delmer had a passion for helping and working with the youth.
