Dennis Hilbert

Dennis P. Hilbert, 81, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, December 28, 2018 at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery with military rites provided by the V.F.W. Post 1856. A visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a Vigil service at 7:00 pm at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Dennis is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Sheryl Campbell and her husband, Mark of Dakota Dunes, SD; sons, David Hilbert and his wife, Kristy, Scott Hilbert and his wife, Janet both of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine (Gengler) Hilbert; brother, Robert John Hilbert; and sister, Julie Dencklau. Dennis was born June 29, 1937 in Britt, IA. He was raised and educated in St. Joe, IA. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served actively from 1955 to 1958 and then remained on reserve duty until his Honorable Discharge in 1961. On September 12, 1959 Dennis was united in marriage to Barbara Watters at Corpus Christi Church. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Dennis first worked for Hormel's for a period of time and later, Smithway. He then was employed for over 23 years at Friendship Haven, retiring in 2004. Dennis and Barbara enjoyed traveling and camping together for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, the Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved his family and grandchildren and will be missed greatly. The family would like to thank the Hospice Home and the nurses for the wonderful care Dennis received while in their care.
