Diane Burch

Diane Breen Burch, 95, of Fort Dodge, IA passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at her home. Diane Breen was born January 9, 1928, to parents Edward Joseph and Elizabeth (Loomis) Breen at the home of her grandparents Fred and Grace Loomis. Diane was born and raised in Fort Dodge, IA graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1947. She then attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO. On February 2, 1949, she was united in marriage to Karl D. Burch in Bayonne, NJ, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. For a number of years Karl and Diane owned Burch Manufacturing Company. The couple enjoyed twenty plus years wintering in Tucson, AZ and spending the summer months in their home at Twin Lakes, IA. Diane is survived by her loving daughters Debbie (John) Ferguson of Tucson, AZ; Karla Skaggs and Anne Clark of Fort Dodge, IA. She was Nana to her beloved grandchildren Shelley (Eric) Ferguson Vanstrom of Fort Wayne, IN; Michael (Stacy) Ferguson and Kerk (Bret Muter) Ferguson of Tucson, AZ; Keri Skaggs and Jessica Johnson of Fort Dodge, IA; Jeremiah (Courtney) Clark and Diane (Caleb) Smith Mallison of Humboldt, IA; Great-grandchildren C. Ean Vanstrom of Charlotte, NC; Aleczandre (Tori) Vanstrom of Indianapolis,IN; Zakyre Vanstrom of Philadelphia, PA; Jackson Ferguson of Tucson, AZ; Xavier(Thor) Skaggs of Kansas City, MO; Aidann Skaggs, Natalya Skaggs, Jordan Messerly, Cooper Johnson and Azalya Hill all of Fort Dodge, IA; Madison Fleming and Zayne Fleming of Iowa City, IA and TJ Fleming of Fort Dodge, IA. Great-Great-grandchildren Theoadorable Vanstrom, Lincoln Vanstrom, Ellie Vanstrom, A.J. Vanstrom, Myla (Messerly) Blair, Kaiya (Messerly) Blair, Acelynn Martinson Skaggs (Nana's Angel). Her beloved brother Fred Breen and Partner Paul Johnson of Des Moines, IA, her nephew Steve (Florence) Burch, and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She loved them all. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Joseph and Elizabeth (Loomis) Breen, husband Karl Douglas Burch (2004), infant twin daughters, grandson Erik Skaggs, son-in-law Bill Skaggs and brother Alan V Breen. Diane was a past board member of the Fort Museum and Frontier Village and Fort Dodge Historical Preservation Commission. Over the years, she was a member of various clubs including; Stitch & Bitch, Bridge, Study Club and Inglesid Club. She always enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and a great book. She loved her Famous Friday lunches with the girls and Friday nights out with Tucson and Twin Lakes groups! Diane was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and a lifelong Democrat. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Fort Dodge, IA. Thank you to Unity Point at Home Hospice service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family or to your favorite charity. A Celebration of Diane's life and services will be held in June at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Fort Dodge, IA. Specific date and time will be announced later. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.
