Donald G. Borgen

Donald Guenther Borgen, 85, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and formerly of Gowrie passed away peacefully on February 26,2024 surrounded by loved ones after a difficult battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Don was born on December 17,1938 to Dr. D.L. and Helen Borgen in Gowrie, Iowa. He graduated from Gowrie High School in 1957. He then attended Buena Vista College where he received a degree in Biology.

In 1960, he married Gayen Jensen. They went on to have 5 children, Don Jr., Katrina, Todd, Tony, and Michelle.

He was Superintendent of Gowrie Municipal Utilities. Don was meticulous and committed to the job and loved what he did for a living. He also was a volunteer fireman in Gowrie. Don retired in 2000.

He moved to Hackensack, MN after retirement and enjoyed his lake home.

While retired, Don had time to pursue his love of fishing, hunting, collecting Marlin rifles and also coins. He also had a love for his Labrador dogs.

Don was predeceased by Katrina Borgen, Helen Borgen, and Dr. D. L. Borgen.

He is survived by Gayen Borgen of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Children, Don J Borgen(Mari) of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Todd Borgen of Firestone, Colorado, Tony Borgen of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Michelle Wyatt of Maple Grove, Minnesota. Grandchildren: Bree Wyatt, Samantha Wyatt, Carli Borgen, Natalie Borgen, Lynsey Borgen, Jonah Borgen, Abigail Borgen, Madeline Borgen, Great granddaughter Ella Borgen-Hill. Sister: Dr. Elizabeth G. (Bette) Penniman, Windsor Heights.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie with Pastor Brad Telleen and Lay Minister Beth Carlon officiating. Burial will be at Gowrie Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie.
