Donald G. Duncan

Rockwell City - Donald G. Duncan, 95, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Shady Oaks Care Center, Lake City. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at St. Pauls Lutheran and Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Military Graveside Rites by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Palmer and Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Don was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; daughter Sheryl Kneeland; brothers Gene, Glen, Bill; sisters Virginia Maundernach, Joan Krause and Shirley Willcutt. He is survived by sons Craig (Ann) of Sandy, Utah, Mark of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Steven of Ames, Iowa and son-in-law Dale Kneeland of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his sister Ellen Bauer of Humbolt, Iowa and four grandchildren; Tonya Gleichman, Troy Duncan, Regan Dillman and Carrie Duncan. He was loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews and three great-grandchildren as well. Don was born on February 20, 1924 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Charles and Mame Duncan. He was one of eight children; three brothers and four sisters. At the age of ten, he and his family moved to Sac City, Iowa. Don was a WWII veteran, serving in the South Pacific, and was very proud of his service. He was a member of the AMVETS for his entire adult life. In 1950, he married Evelyn Schulte. They settled in Rockwell City in 1955 and raised four children. Don worked for Iowa Public Service (Mid America) for thirty-three years and retired in 1986. He would joke that he had been in every house in Rockwell City and knew almost everyone in town as part of his job. Don lived his life with a positive attitude and had a good sense of humor. Don enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was an excellent cook and never missed a meal. We will miss his smile and twinkling blue eyes. Many thanks to the staff at Shady Oaks for taking care of our dad. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
