Rockwell City Donald L. Brownlee 96, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022, at his home in Rockwell City, Iowa. Graveside Services for Donald and his wife Marilla will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating, with Military Rites conducted by AMVETS Post #41 of Rockwell City. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. Donald is survived by their daughters, Kathy (Gary) Dudley of Twin Lakes, and Angie (Gus) Crowder of Guthrie Center; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Errington and Minnie (Martens) Brownlee; and brother Raymond Brownlee. Donald Lee Brownlee was born July 5, 1925 at the farmhouse at Twin Lakes Bible Camp in Calhoun County. Donald graduated from Jolley High School with the Class of 1942. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946, attaining the rank of Gunners Mate First Class. On May 6, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marilla Fisher at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. The couple made their home in Rockwell City. Donald worked at Westermans Lumber Co. in Jolley, and then managed Westermans in Rockwell City and then Fullertons Lumber Co. In 1987, he purchased the lumberyard renaming it Golden Buckle Lumber and operated until his retirement. Marilla passed away January 26, 2022. Donald was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Church Council, JayCees, AMVETS, AMVETS Honor Guard, Rockwell City Fire Department, and Rockwell City Chamber. He also served as Mayor of Rockwell City for 16 years. Donald is also survived by his loving care family. They gave him and Marilla the best care that anyone could ever ask for. They are Allie, Anita, Becky, Crissy, Glenny, Klay, and the entire staff of Kindred Hospice. We are forever grateful to you and can never thank you enough.
