Donald L. O'Connor, 84, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4th at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 1:30 p.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites presented by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with a Vigil at 7:30 p.m. all at the funeral home. Donald is survived by his wife, Minnie "Mickey"; children, Vickie (Dennis) Berkland of Minneapolis, MN; Dan (Deborah) O'Connor of Fort Dodge; Deborah (Rod) Boddicker of Sioux Falls, SD; Don O'Connor of Fort Dodge; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Walt "Jack" O'Connor of Fort Dodge; Mike O'Connor of Texas; Bob O'Connor of Badger; and sister, Peg McBride of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Flora (Jones) O'Connor; sisters, Betty Lou O'Connor, Frances O'Connor, Connie; brothers, Bill and Jim O'Connor; and two infant brothers. Donald Lee O'Connor was born April 27, 1930 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge. On December 2, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Minnie Mammenga at Sacred Heart Church and established their home in Fort Dodge. Donald served in the United States Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. Donald was a member of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed volunteering for "Meals on Wheels" for many years. He also participated in musicals and comedies, was a very active member of the VFW, and was a leader of "Man to Man" support group for prostate cancer. Don truly was a "Jack-of-all-Trades". Memorials may be left in discretion of the family.
