Dayton - Donald Pirie, 81, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at his home in Dayton.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Palmer and Sons Funeral Home in Gowrie. Burial will follow at Dawson Cemetery in Paton, Iowa. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home in Gowrie. The family requests that everyone please dress casual for the visitation and the services.

Survivors include the love of his life Maggie Kemmerer of Dayton, daughter Jody Pirie (Rick) of Burnside, son Kevin (Maurie) Pirie of Fort Dodge, Kerry Pirie of Victor, daughter Jenny (Bruce) Rollins of Callender, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents James LeRoy and Esther (Cooklin) Pirie, wife Roxanne, sister Betty Brundage, brothers Bob and Herman Pirie, great granddaughter Kadyn Pirie.


Donald LeRoy Pirie was born on September 8, 1942, in Lena, IA at the family home. He attended schools in Gowrie with the Class of 1960. For a time, Don worked for Sweeney Equipment, Crouse Cartage as a driver and dispatcher. Don owned and operated Pirie Trucking and worked in tire recycling. Don enjoyed just about everything when it came to racing. From racing motocross enduro’s on his Maico, racing stock cars, demolition derbies, and watching NASCAR. Maggie and Don made many trips to watch the Daytona 500. One of his favorite things was to watch his grandson’s racing motocross. Don liked to go to auctions and sales where he liked to wheel and deal with others. He was famous for his Labor Day parties. Spending time with his friends and the family that he loved was the most important thing in his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
