Donald S. Schadegg, 90, of Pleasant Hill, CA passed away at his home from natural causes Sunday, September 20, 2020. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will take place Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Catherine, Pleasant Hill, CA, daughters Deborah (Michael) Schuh and Cynthia Schadegg, Fort Dodge, IA, sons Mark (Donna) Schadegg, Noble, OK, and Steven Schadegg, Pleasant Hill, CA, grandchildren Michael Keck, Des Moines, IA, Tyler (Erica) Schadegg, Clare, IA, Parker Schadegg, Holly, MI, Lyle (Lauren) Schuh, Mesa, AZ, Martin Schuh, Fort Dodge, IA, Sean Schadegg and Ashley Schadegg, Noble, OK and Regina Roudebush, Sacramento, CA, great-grandchildren William and Catherine Schadegg, Clare, IA and Alice Schuh, Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Ernie Bhend, brother David Bhend and great-grandson Thomas Schadegg. Donald Stanley Schadegg was born to Walter and Louise (Porter) Schadegg on April 25, 1930 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He later moved to Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1948. On September 29, 1951, he was united in marriage to Catherine Lennon at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge. Don served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1952 until retiring with the rank of Major in 1971. During his service he and his family were stationed at EtaJima, Japan, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, and Stuttgart, Germany, and Dreux Airforce base in France. His family returned stateside while he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. The years he wasn't overseas, he was stationed in New Jersey, Maryland, and Fort Huachuca Arizona. After retirement from the military he made his way to California, a place he always wanted to be stationed but never had the opportunity. There he worked for the US Postal service for 26 years before retiring in 1998. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
