Donald E. Smith, 90, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Military rites will be presented by the VFW Post 1856. Burial will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Adel, Iowa. A visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Donald is survived by his sisters, LaVon (George) Lindflott of Northwood, IA; Betty Cabalka of Minnetonka, MN; and brother, Stanley (Carol) Smith, Free Port, IL. Donald was born on October 25, 1926. He was enlisted in the United States Navy serving on the USS Taluga during WWII. Don first was employed with Kalo Brick and Tile Company and the railroad. He is notably known for his work at the Fort Dodge Fort Museum and his participation in the Fort Dodge Historical Foundation. Don was an avid history buff, unofficial tour guide of the fort and a overall great story teller. He was a very faithful member of Holy Trinity Parish. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
