Doris M. Nelson

Doris M. Nelson 87, of Fort Dodge, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at her home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Survivors include her sons, Chris (Laurie) Nelson; Eric (Michelle) Nelson; both of Fort Dodge; daughter, Julia (Mike) Stringer of St. Cloud, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Margaret (Klein) Meyer; husband, Robert Nelson; and brothers, James; Thomas; Dr. Paul Meyer. Doris Mary Meyer was born May 22, 1930 in Dubuque. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1948. She worked at Dubuque Packing Company from 1948 till 1954. On September 25, 1954 she was united in marriage to Robert Nelson. In 1955, she and Robert established their home in Fort Dodge. She started Nelson News with her husband in 1955 and owned it until 1996. She also ran The Book Shelf from 1984 until 1998. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and Women's Guild. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
