Dorothy Ann Anderson

GOWRIE Dorothy A. Anderson, 89, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, Pastor Denise Burns is officiating the service. Burial will follow at Lawn Cemetery in Boxholm. A visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie is serving the family. Dorothy Ann Gjerstad was born April 23, 1934 to Gerhard and Anna (Vorre) Gjerstad near Goldfield. Dorothy was raised and educated in Corwith and graduated from Corwith High School in 1951. She then continued her education at Iowa Lutheran Nursing School. She received her RN Degree in 1954. Dorothy worked in the nursing field for over 40 years. During her career she worked for Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Tucson Medical Center, University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, and retired from Trintiy Regional Medical Center in 1997. On August 20, 1961, she was united in marriage to Dale Anderson at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Humboldt. The couple established their home on a farm near Paton. In 2004, they moved to Gowrie. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women, Gowrie Womens Club and Neighborhood Club. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Ruth Nellis and husband Jeff of Fort Dodge, son David Anderson and wife Trena of Paton, grandchildren Matthew Nellis, Rebecca (Marc) Stayner, Aiden Anderson, and sister Lucille Wagner of Eagle Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, infant sons Kevin Dale Anderson and Mark Alan Anderson, brothers Harold, Robert, Earl, sisters Olive Gjerstad, Alice Lane, and Marguerite Hiserote. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
