Dorothy E Foster

Dorothy E. Foster, 89, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at the Marian Home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 5, 2024 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be 10:00 AM until the start of the service.

Dorothy is survived by her children Pam Haldin of Fort Dodge, Dave (Anne) Hankel of Fort Dodge, Edward (Denise) Hankel of Blue Springs, MO, Jeri Marie Hankel and Warren Woolard of St. Cloud MN; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Ferency of Jackson Springs, NC, Olga Cockel of Santa Barbara, CA, Dale Heitner of Appleton, MN and Martha Block of Twin Lakes, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Harriet (Rhodes) Heitner; granddaughter, Abbie Hankel; and siblings, Rudolph, Robert, August, Ernest, Ruth, and Wendell.

Dorothy Evelyn Heitner was born October 13, 1934 in Fort Dodge. She attended area schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to Richard “Jerry” Hankel. The couple later divorced. Dorothy worked at Mercy Hospital, Trinity Regional Hospital as well as Friendship Haven. She was also a private caretaker for many years. She ended her career working for the Fort Dodge Messenger for 7 years before retiring in August of 2003. Dorothy was a devout Christian who loved serving the Lord. She never missed a day reading the Bible and praying for her loved ones. She acquired the nickname "Groovy Grandma" from her grand children, who continue to call her "Groove". She also loved chocolate and looked forward to enjoying it in Heaven for eternity.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Marian Home for their unending care and a special thanks to Pastor Dani for reassuring our Sweet Momma that Jesus was waiting for her with open arms.
