Dorothy Knierim

Dorothy Knierim, 97, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday March 21, 2019 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Laufersweiler- Sievers Funeral Home with a visitation 1 hour prior to the time of service. A private graveside service will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery in Manson. Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren, Shan (Brett) Ray of Des Moines and Shawn (Theresa) Bittner of Britt; great-grandchildren, Regan and Griffin Ray of Des Moines; and sister, Margaret Madson of Eagle Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Inez (Rinehart) Harmon; husband, Arnold Knierim; daughter, Linda Bittner; 2 brothers and 1 sister. Dorothy R. Harmon was born November 1, 1921 in Pomeroy, IA. She attended schools in the Manson area and graduated from Manson High School in 1940. In 1942, she was united in marriage to Arnold Knierim. After WWII, the couple established their home and lived in Palmer for 10 years. They then moved to Fort Dodge where they lived for 30 years. Dorothy worked for Lynn Rae's Beauty Shop for 10 years until retiring in 1984. After her retirement, the family moved to Manson. They enjoyed many winters in Arizona and would spend summer months at Lost Island Lake in Ruthven, Iowa. After Arnold passed away in 1999, Dorothy moved back to Fort Dodge. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church and had belonged to a card club for over 60 years. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
