Rockwell City Dorothy M. Talbott 95, passed away Saturday. January 18, 2020 at Shady Oaks Care Center, Lake City. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the United Methodist Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Anita Bane officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Military Graveside Rites by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. Visitation will be 4 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sandra Maulsby of Rockwell City; grandchildren, Diane (Justin) Pierce of Blountville, Tennessee, Chad (Heather) Maulsby of Rockwell City, Ron (Jamie) Maulsby of Rockwell City, Shelly Talbott of Rockwell City, Jeff (Stacy) Talbott of Lytton; 10 great-grandchildren, Jared, Brandon (Emily), Kristen, A.J., Hallee, SaraJo, Wesly, Jewel, Wyatt, and Gracie; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John; son Mark Talbott; daughter-in-law Janet Talbott; son-in-law Noel Maulsby; her parents, James and Millie (MacDonald) Casey; two sisters, Edna Meyer and Helen Gorton; and brothers, Paul, Bernard and Gerald Casey. Dorothy Mae Casey Talbott was born November 10, 1924 in Elm Grove Township, near Sherwood, Iowa. She attended Elm Grove No. 1 Country School and graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1942. Dorothy attended Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge. Following her education, she worked for the State Department of Social Services at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City. In December of 1944, Dorothy served in the United States Navy Womens Reserve (WAVES) at Hunter College, Bronx, New York, Naval Training Station in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Electrician Training School in Detroit, Michigan during World War II. She was honorably discharged on September 19, 1945. On June 8, 1945 she was united in marriage to John K. Talbott at the Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Michigan. They lived in several places during their marriage including Hastings, Nebraska, LeMars, Fontana, California, Lake City, and Rockwell City. Dorothy was a homemaker and mother. She also worked at McCrary Rost Hospital and Clinic, Credit Bureau, Hunt Truck Line, and finally worked as the Calhoun County Deputy Recorder for over 20 years until her retirement. The couple enjoyed wintering in Rio Grande Valley, Texas for many years. John passed away in 2012. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW, Calhoun Co. Historical Society, PAWS, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
