Douglas E. Monagin, 91, of Humboldt, passed away January 1, 2024, at the VA Hospital In Des Moines.
Burial will be at a later date at Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter will full military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Doug is survived by his son, Mike Monagin of Jefferson, daughter Carole Rustan of Ankeny; sister-in-law, Marjorie Monagin of Tecumseh, MI; sister Peg (Pete) Broadwater of Youngstown OH; grandsons, John (Jordan) Lawson of Carroll, Zane (David) Parker of Pleasant Hill; 6 great grandchildren, Klayton, Kendall, Kimber, Keaton, Davonte and Rowan; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Doug is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Margaret Hoag and Millard and Pearle Monagin, aunts, Katherine and Laura, mother, Katherine (Claude) Penn, father, Lowell Monagin, brother Dale Monagin, sister Polly Brown, nephew John Monagin, and grandson, Logan Rustan.
Douglas Eugene Monagin was born on June 23, 1932, in Onsted, Michigan to Lowell and Katherine (Hoag) Monagin. He attended school and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1950. He worked at Dundee Products in Tecumseh before serving in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. Doug was a proud Korean War Vet. At his discharge he was a Master SGT. Doug drove trucks for several years and later owned his own interior/exterior painting business in Jefferson. He had a love for music, and he enjoyed playing various instruments and loved to sing. He also hosted karaoke shows from time to time. Doug also traveled selling boots and western wear with longtime friend, Brad Strutzenberg. He enjoyed meeting new people, good conversations, and had a knack for selling. Doug had a love for his grandkids and great grandkids. He was always willing to take them for rides on his power chair just to hear the laughter.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
