Dr. Martha Lee Hoard

Dr. Martha L. Hoard, 94, of Fort Dodge passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Simpson Center at Friendship Haven. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 22nd at 11:00 A.M. at First Covenant Church with Pastor Allan Redenius officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Rolfe Cemetery. Dr. Martha L. Hoard was born on February 22, 1925 in Williams, Arizona. She received a master's degree in nursing from Stanford University in California. She married Harold Hoard in 1962 and they resided in Rolfe, Iowa until his death in 1982. Martha returned to college and was awarded her Ph.D. in education at age 60. She then became the Director of Nursing at Buena Vista College and additionally taught various classes in nutrition and health at the Ft. Dodge Campus. Dr. Hoard spent her life caring for others. She volunteered thousands of hours at Trinity Regional Hospital, was the President of Community Action Network, served on the Board of Directors of the Trinity Health Foundation, served on the Iowa Judicial Board of Examiners, served on the core team for A.E.A. Bridges. Martha was an active member at First Covenant Church serving on many committees and participating in the choir. She was a charter board member and singer in the Sonshine Singers. In addition to her husband, Martha was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by nieces, nephews and friends who loved her.
