Duane Lester Scheer

Duane L. Scheer, 79, of Fort Dodge, passed away, Thursday August 24,2023, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 1, 2023, in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler Funeral Home, with Rev. Dani Rogers officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at North Lawn Cemetery with military rites from the US Navy Honor Guard and the VFW Post 1856. Duane is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter Shellee (Terry) Ressler, stepson Mark (Sheila) Border, stepdaughter Ann Marie (Keith) Machovec; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ethel (Anderson) Scheer, sons Bart Scheer and Troy Lindner, stepdaughter Vicki Lane, and an infant brother. Duane Lester Scheer was born October 28, 1943, in Primghar, Iowa. He graduated from high school in 1961 and then graduated from Dun Woody Institute in Minneapolis. Duane was united in marriage to Marla Lindner, the couple established their home in Fort Dodge, and they later divorced. For a number of years, Duane worked as a welder and then worked in construction. On April 9, 1988, he was united in marriage to Mary "Pat" (Brehm) Border, the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Since 1990, Duane drove semis for Brazos Trucking, Decker Trucking, and Blacktop Service. He retired in 2021. Duane was a member of the Civitan Club and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and was an avid NASCAR fan. For the last year Duane has been working part time at Hy-Vee. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
