Edmund James Condon

Edmund James "Eddie" Condon, 81, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Barnum, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 following a brief illness. Born January 4, 1934, Eddie attended Barnum High School and served two years in the United States Army. On June 6, 1957, he married the love of his life, Mary Catherine McCarville and together they shared 58 years of happiness. They were blessed with 8 children - Colleen Wittler (Bob) Tom (Jane), Mary Anne Hammond (Dan), Pat (Carol), Cathy Colburn (Ted), Michael (Carrie) and Matthew (Carrie); 25 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant son, Edmund Francis and infant grandson, Benjamin Condon. Eddie farmed from an early age. He took pride in and had a great love for his life's work. Eddie served the community as a member of the W&H Cooperative Advisory Board, the Farmer's Security Mutual Board, the Board of Omaha All Risk Crop Insurance, as Chairman of Berkley Bedell's Farm Advisory Group and as Owner/Operator of the Condon Insurance Agency. He volunteered with the Barnum Fire Department and Board and served as President of the Northwest Webster School Board. Eddie served his faith community as Trustee of St. Joseph's Church in Barnum, as a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Edmond Foundation Board. Above all, his greatest joy and accomplishment in life was his family, his wife whom he adored, and the children and grandchildren in whom he instilled a deep and abiding faith in God. Eddie is also survived by his siblings, Frances Ann McCarville (Steve), John Condon (Patsy), Joe Condon (Diane) and Mary Gongol (Verne). Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Barnum. A visitation will be Sunday 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Edmond School, Holy Trinity Catholic Community, the Marian Home or the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
