Edward L. Jacobson, 83, of Fort Dodge passed away, Sunday April 30, 2023, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Friday May 5, 2023, at 10:30 AM in the chapel of the Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery with military rites presented by the US Navy Honor Guard and V.F.W Post 1856. A Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the funeral home. Edward is survived by his wife Roxie of 59 years, children Eddie (Laura) Jacobson and Mike (Shelly) of Fort Dodge; grandchildren Shelby and Jared Jacobson, Tanner Helmers, and Lucas Jacobson; sister Nancy Jo Henning of West Des Moines; brother-in-law Tom Petcoff of Ankeny; and dogs Lucy and Louie. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Jacobson; Mother and father-in-law Gene and Mary Alice Petcoff; brothers Jack and Earl Jacobson; and sister-in-law Sharon Smith Petcoff. Edward Louis Jacobson was born March 17, 1940, in Pella Iowa. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1958 and enlisted in the US Navy soon after. Ed served on the submarines USS Alexander Hamilton SSBN617 and SS 399 Sea Cat. January 8, 1964, Edward was united in marriage to Roxie Petcoff. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, the couple returned to Fort Dodge. They built and ran Dodger Lanes in Fort Dodge. Ed also worked at North Central Correctional Facility Rockwell City as the Plant Operations Manager, transferring to the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility when it opened. Edward retired from the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility. During his retirement he drove buses for the Southeast Valley Schools. Ed was a member of the Fort Dodge Bowling Hall of Fame and the ISSVI Submarine Veterans-Placoderm Base. He had a love for cars and traveling with friends. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
