Edward Vincent Hayek

Edward Vincent Hayek, 83, of Duncombe, passed away on Wednesday February 13, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 18th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery, near Vincent, with Military Rites conducted by the Duncombe American Legion Post #491 and U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Survivors include his children, Allen Hayek and his wife Chris of Duncombe, IA; Brian Hayek and his wife Barb of Fairbank, IA; Connie Hayek of Reston, VA; David Hayek of Gowrie, IA; Ellis "Eli" Hayek of Duncombe, IA; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Olson and her husband Elmer of Eagle Grove, IA; Sandie Hutchinson and her husband Russ of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret "Story" Hayek; and his wife, Glenda in 2006. Edward Vincent Hayek was born on May 30, 1929 in Fort Dodge. He attended schools here and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1948. From 1951 to 1953, Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving in Germany. After his honorable discharge he returned to the family farm. On June 28, 1953 he was united in marriage to Glenda May Wrede at St. Paul Lutheran Church. In 1957, the couple made their home on the farm in Duncombe; where Ed farmed his entire life. He also was employed for over 20 years at Land O'Lakes in Fort Dodge, retiring in 1988. He was past Commander of the Duncombe American Legion Post #491, and was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
