Elaine S. Messerly, 66, of Moorland passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 25th at 10:30 a.m. at UCC/Congregational Church in Moorland with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. A visitation will be Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at UCC/Congregational Church in Moorland. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Elaine is survived by her husband, Frank of Moorland; brother, Jim (Mary) Chalfant of Webster City; sisters, Joyce (Bob) Moulton of Hartford; Bethene (Wes) Nelson of Marion; step children, Bryan, Annette, Jeantte, and Darwin; mother-in-law, Betty Messerly of Moorland; brother-in-law, Keith Messerly of Fort Dodge; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Viola (Thompson) Chalfant. Elaine Sue Chalfant was born on May 20, 1948 in Webster City. She attended schools there and graduated from Webster City High School. Following her education she went to work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Elaine later went to work at Hawkeye Glove Manufacturing as a supervisor for many years until the plant closed. On July 19, 1974 she was united in marriage to Franklin D. Messerly in South Dakota and the couple established their home in Moorland. They enjoyed many snowmobiling trips to Cable, WI; and Elaine also liked to play golf in the summer time.
